Pitha-Compitition is An Attempt to retain our Heritage, Tradition, Self-Respect & Culture
In Odisha, Pithas (Odia: ପିଠା) are considered to be special delicacies. During festivities and family occasions/gatherings these pithas form an integral part of the celebrations. They are also routinely prepared and served in each and every Odia home on a regular basis during meal times.
Living in the US we miss not only our families; but also the sight / feel and sound of Odisha as well as it’s typical cuisine. Keeping fond memories of childhood days; we have for the first time conceptualized a Pitha competition- for OSA members. By encouraging our members to participate in this Pitha presentation we could not only help in reviving the age old tradition but at the same time give an opportunity to showcase our next generation the manifold aspects of Odia culture.
The ultimate goal of this congregation is to keep up the Odiya spirit and transmit the same to our budding youth.
In the modern era no, one has time to make time consuming eatables, we are so much used to fast food we forget the existence of traditional food items. The main aim is to introduce this delicacy which we once enjoyed during our childhood to our kids.
Keep up the tradition, culture and values thereby reviving nostalgic memories of the past.
The competition is all about sharing the enthusiasm and presenting the very best. This is an opportunity to bring out the talent as well as teach others about these traditional delicacies.
Can you cook our traditional Pithas? If you said,” yes” then you can participate in this competition. Your next step would be to choose the type of Pitha you will make from any traditional Pithas listed in the given appendix.
Prizes: • If you are chosen as the “chef” you will be “Best Odiyani” to receive a certificate and an award on OSA Stage.
Honesty and integrity expected from each and every Participant.
Each participant has to make pitha only for 10-12 people.
The food items have to be presented in a nice and neat way (go wild with your imagination), remember, a book is sometimes judged by its cover.
We will have 3 prizes and the winners will be awarded on the stage during the end of the session. However, to keep up the enthusiasm and spirit all participants will be cheered and encouraged for being a part of this great endeavor.
For participants coming from far off places –You could carry just enough in a small case along with your luggage and preserve it in the refrigerator for the contest.
Each person has to explain about the Pitha and recipe to the curious crowd.
The winners will get a slot – describing the recipe in detail
A 10 Minutes Presentation on ODIA Pitha will be presented to take troll on our rich history about Pitha .
